Hyundai Motor’s Head of Planning and Finance announced during the Q4 2024 earnings conference call on January 23rd, “We are targeting 2026 for the commercialization of our robotaxi services. We estimate the technological gap between us and Waymo, which is already operating commercial robotaxi services, to be approximately one year.”

Ahead of the commercialization of its autonomous robotaxi services, Hyundai Motor has already disclosed plans to expand its autonomous vehicle foundry business.
The Head of Planning and Finance further explained, “Waymo is expected to receive vehicles equipped with its autonomous driving system based on the Ioniq 5 produced at HMGMA (Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America).”
Waymo has previously showcased the Ioniq 5 equipped with its autonomous driving system at CES 2025, held in Las Vegas, USA.
