On the 5th, more than a million people flocked to the area around Yeouido Hangang Park in Seoul for the "Seoul International Fireworks Festival," bringing a massive windfall to the retail industry.
Convenience stores near the venue saw a surge in sales of items like picnic mats, instant snacks, and alcoholic beverages, with sales skyrocketing.
Nearby hotels also saw a boost, with fireworks packages—combining accommodation with food and beverage services—selling out one after another, much to the delight of hotel operators.
According to GS25 on the 6th, sales at 12 stores located in areas like Yeouido and Ichon-dong in Yongsan-gu, which were frequented by people attending the fireworks festival, surged by up to 8.7 times compared to the previous week.
People started gathering along the Han River from around noon to secure prime spots for viewing the fireworks, which were set to begin at 7:30 p.m., with convenience store sales peaking between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
The top-performing store raked in over 15 million won (approximately 1.5 million yen) in just three hours between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. A GS25 representative commented, "This is an unprecedented sales record."
