The temperature dropped suddenly, and for the first time this fall, snow has fallen in the highlands of Mount Seorak.
The first snowfall was observed around 7:30 p.m. near the Chuncheon shelter, close to the summit of Mount Seorak.
Although the snow continued for about 12 hours until 7 a.m. this morning, the strong winds in the highlands kept the accumulation at just 1 cm.
This year’s first snow on Mount Seorak was about two days earlier than last year and nine days later than the year before.
The Mount Seorak National Park Office has urged hikers, who have been coming in increasing numbers to see the autumn leaves, to be fully prepared with winter gear for safe hiking, as winter conditions have already set in at higher altitudes.
