<Korean News> What is the second largest age group in Korea?

In South Korea, the population in their 60s has surpassed those in their 40s, becoming the second-largest age group after those in their 50s.

According to population statistics from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, as of the end of last month, the population in their 40s nationwide stood at 7,769,028, while those in their 50s numbered 8,722,766, and the population in their 60s reached 7,770,242.

Until now, the population of those in their 50s was the largest, followed by those in their 40s and then those in their 60s. However, this time, the ranking between those in their 40s and 60s has reversed.

According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, this is the first time since population statistics were first compiled in 2008 that the population in their 60s has exceeded that of those in their 40s.

As South Korea’s society continues to age, the number of registered residents aged 65 and older surpassed 10 million for the first time in July of this year.

Additionally, as of last month, the average age in South Korea was 45.2 years, marking an increase of 5.3 years from 39.9 years a decade ago and 0.6 years from 44.6 years just one year ago.
