<Korean Info> Seoul World Fireworks Festival to be held on May 5, “Please check traffic and safety measures in advance”.

The "Seoul International Fireworks Festival," scheduled for October 5, 2024, is expected to draw large crowds, prompting various traffic and safety measures. On the day of the event, Yeouidong-ro near the venue will be closed, and buses will be rerouted. Depending on congestion levels, Line 5's Yeouinaru Station may skip stops.

On the 1st, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced, "In anticipation of the festival, which attracts around 1 million visitors annually, we have formulated and are implementing a comprehensive plan prioritizing citizen safety."

Celebrating its 20th year, the fireworks festival, themed "Draw Your Dream Like Colorful Fireworks," will feature participants from Korea, Japan, and the United States. Various events will take place at Yeouido Hangang Park's Event Plaza from 1 p.m., with the highlight—the fireworks display—beginning at 7 p.m. and lasting 90 minutes.

The city will establish a "Comprehensive Safety Headquarters" at the venue, working with relevant agencies such as the Fire and Disaster Headquarters, Yeongdeungpo and Yongsan District Offices, and the Seoul Metropolitan Police. The event's organizer, Hanwha, will install CCTV cameras in designated areas to monitor crowd density in real time and will use a "Safety Management App" to deploy personnel and manage crowd dispersal. The city and the Ministry of Interior and Safety will also conduct a joint government inspection team from the 4th to the 5th to review crowd control measures and ensure the safety of facilities.

On the day of the event, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Yeouidong-ro (between the southern end of Mapo Bridge and the front of the 63 Building) will be closed to traffic, and all buses passing through this section will be rerouted. To facilitate transportation to the venue, Subway Lines 5 and 9 will each run an additional 18 and 52 services, respectively. Depending on safety conditions and crowd density, Line 5's Yeouinaru Station may bypass stops entirely.

Seoul city officials advise attendees to use other nearby subway stations and plan their return routes in advance, as all exits at Yeouinaru Station may be closed after the event to manage crowds. In such cases, alternatives include Yeouido Station (Lines 5 and 9), Mapo Station (Line 5), and Saetgang Station (Line 9 and Sinlim Line).

From 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., 14 bus routes crossing the Hangang Bridge will not stop at Noryangjin Café and Nodeul Island stops. Between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., 26 bus routes passing through Yeouido Transfer Center, Yeouido Station, and Yeouinaru Station will operate with increased frequency. Access to the lower section of Nodeul Island will be restricted from 9 p.m. on the 4th until 10 p.m. on the 5th. Wonhyo Bridge will have its east sidewalk (toward Yongsan) closed from October 4 to 6 for fireworks setup, while the west sidewalk (toward Yeouido) will be restricted from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the day of the event.

Public bicycles like "Ddareungi," along with private personal mobility and electric bicycle rentals around Yeouido, will be temporarily suspended. Parking enforcement will be extended beyond the roads around the venue to include areas where fireworks can be viewed, such as Ichon, Noryangjin, and bridges near Yeouido.
