<Korean Information> Why is “NAVER MAP” an essential app for tourists?

Naver Map has become an essential service for foreigners visiting South Korea.

According to an independent survey by Naver on the 1st, the average number of daily active users (DAU) using Naver Map in foreign languages last month increased by approximately 30.8% compared to the same period last year.

While Naver has not disclosed specific DAU figures, app analysis service “Mobile Index” estimates that nearly 20% of the average total DAU of approximately 6.894 million last month were using the app in foreign languages.

The results of the “Major Travel App Trends and Usage Status Survey” released by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization also confirmed that Naver Map has emerged as a major travel app for foreigners visiting South Korea.

Among the foreign tourists visiting South Korea who responded to the survey, 56.2% said they used Naver Map for transportation and navigation services, which was higher than Google Maps at 33.9%.

As the most satisfying app for traveling in South Korea, “Naver Map” was mentioned by 27.8% of respondents, followed by “Papago” at 9.9% and “Google Maps” at 6.3%.

Respondents cited the advantages of Naver Map as being able to search for various information needed for travel in one app (54.2%), its user-friendly interface (52%), and its multilingual support (43.4%).

Since 2018, Naver Map has been offering multilingual services (English, Chinese, Japanese) to make the map service more convenient for foreign users. Users can search for store names, addresses, and business categories in foreign languages, and use navigation features for walking, public transportation, and driving.

Recently, the scope of multilingual support has been expanded to include the operating hours tab (home, reviews, information, etc.) on the “Place” detail page, convenient facilities and services (such as takeout, reservations, pet-friendly, group availability), and “Keyword Reviews” that allow users to quickly see the characteristics of stores.
