On the 6th (local time), U.S. entertainment outlet Variety reported that Warner Bros., the film's distributor, rescheduled the North American release of Mickey 17 from January 31 to April 18 next year.

Accordingly, the Korean release date has also been pushed back to April.

Mickey 17 was originally set to open in Korea on January 28, three days ahead of its North American release.

In a press release, Warner Bros. Korea confirmed, "The initial principle of releasing the film first in Korea remains unchanged," adding that they would announce the finalized Korean release date once confirmed.

The initial release date for Mickey 17 was set for March 29 this year but was postponed to January 31 next year due to the impact of the Hollywood strikes.

According to Variety, Warner Bros. acted quickly to secure the April 18 release date after distributor Lionsgate delayed the opening of the Michael Jackson biopic Michael, originally set for that date.

This adjustment allows Mickey 17 to dominate the prime season without major competition at the box office.

A Warner Bros. representative stated in a press release, “Once it was confirmed that Mickey 17 could be released on April 18, we moved quickly to secure this date, and we are pleased with the new release schedule.”

Warner Bros. Korea also highlighted that “the Easter and April markets are among the peak box office seasons in North America, along with Christmas,” emphasizing that the decision reflects confidence in Mickey 17’s performance.

Mickey 17, Bong’s follow-up to Parasite (2019), is based on American author Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey 7, depicting the story of a cloned human assigned to colonize an icy planet.

The film stars Hollywood actor Robert Pattinson and Korean-American Steven Yeun, who recently won both a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his role in the Netflix series Beef (2022).
