<Korean News> Detained Patriotic Youth Declares: "Democratic Power, in Reality, Is Anti-State Forces"

At the Seoul Western District Court in Mapo District on the 18th, following the large-scale arrest of supporters of President Yoon Suk-yeol by the police, a young man detained at the Gangseo Police Station detention facility and later released has moved many citizens with a handwritten account penned while in custody.

The youth stated, “Many policies and legislations tolerated under the guise of democratic power were, in fact, acts of aiding and abetting anti-state forces.” He continued, “The true essence of President Yoon Suk-yeol’s declaration of martial law was to reveal this truth to the public.”

Criticizing those he described as “impostors masquerading as democratic powers and deceiving the members of society,” he argued, “Each of us has failed to discern right from wrong and has been reduced to powerless losers unable to reclaim our stolen sovereignty.”

He declared, “Such attempts at a national usurpation are intolerable,” emphasizing that “what was most unbearable was how these anti-state forces violated personal reason and free will, even before undermining democracy itself.”

He added, “By asserting righteousness, resisting unjust power, reclaiming stolen sovereignty, and striving to stand again as citizens, I overcame the barriers before me. In this turbulent time, as I question the legitimacy of the public authority that arrested the President, I see that illegal actions may have been part of the preordained sequence.”

Furthermore, he stated, “I will accept whatever punishment is imposed on me,” acknowledging that “although a criminal record beyond a fine will cost me much due to a moment of youthful fervor, I have also gained something valuable.”

He vowed, “As a citizen, I will continue to reflect, act, and remain committed to doing so in the future.”

Currently, amid controversies over excessive investigations, movements led by right-wing legal advocates are underway to demand the release of the young freedom-rights activists.
