<Korean News> Growing misuse alert as diet pill “Wegovy” lands in Korea!

On the 15th, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced that it would intensify its crackdown on illegal sales and advertising activities online and on social media in relation to Novo Nordisk’s "Wegovy" (ingredient: semaglutide), which has garnered attention as a "miracle diet drug" and is set to be released in South Korea.


Novo Nordisk's “Wigovi”

Wegovy is a prescription-only medication intended for adult patients with obesity, specifically those with an initial Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or higher, or those with a BMI between 27 kg/m² and 30 kg/m² who also have at least one weight-related comorbidity, such as hypertension or diabetes. It should be used in accordance with a doctor’s prescription and under the guidance of a pharmacist.

It is illegal for anyone other than licensed pharmacies to sell this obesity treatment.

Novo Nordisk's “Wigovi”

To protect consumers from potential harm when purchasing obesity treatment drugs online or via social media, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety plans to conduct a one-month intensive crackdown on individuals facilitating sales or advertising these drugs online or on social media, timed to coincide with the drug’s release.
