Incheon International Airport Corporation has canceled its plan to provide a special entrance exclusively for celebrities at Incheon Airport, a proposal that had sparked controversy over preferential treatment.
Through a press release, the corporation announced, “Taking into account various opinions raised in the National Assembly’s inspection and media coverage, we have decided not to proceed with the 'Special Entrance Procedure for Celebrities During High-Density Crowd Situations,' which was initially scheduled for implementation on the 28th.”
The statement further explained, “We are reviewing similar practices at international airports and will gather sufficient feedback to develop alternative measures that ensure the safety of airport users and address potential congestion issues caused by high-density crowds.”
Originally, the Incheon International Airport Corporation had prepared procedures to allow celebrities and public figures to use designated entrances—typically reserved for flight crews, diplomats, and government officials—during departures. This initiative aimed to mitigate risks, as large crowds often gather when high-profile figures travel, sometimes causing incidents like automatic doors being damaged by the crowds.
However, the measure, intended to prevent safety incidents within the airport, had drawn criticism as a form of “preferential treatment for celebrities,” sparking debate.
