<Korean News> Jungsikdang in New York City becomes the first Korean restaurant to receive three Michelin stars.

Jungsik, a restaurant in Manhattan, New York, led by Chef Lim Jungsik, has become the first Korean restaurant in the United States to be awarded three Michelin stars.

Achieving the coveted three-star status, which represents the "highest rating" in the Michelin Guide, is a rare accomplishment, even for the world's most renowned chefs.

There are only 14 three-star Michelin restaurants in the entire U.S., and within New York City, Jungsik is now one of just five.

On November 9, the Michelin Guide announced its "Michelin Guide New York" selections, naming Jungsik as the only new restaurant to receive a three-star rating.

According to the Michelin Guide, a three-star restaurant is defined as one where "the cuisine is so exceptional that it’s worth a special journey."

Regarding Jungsik, the Michelin Guide noted, "The quality of the dishes has improved further. The quality of the ingredients and the technical skill in sauces are exceptional. The plating is also fascinating. The flavors are refined, distinct, and harmonious. It's incredibly impressive."

Chef Lim Jungsik, a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), one of the world's top three culinary schools, opened Jungsik in 2009 in Sinsa-dong, Seoul, at the age of 31.

In 2011, he launched a branch of Jungsik in New York. The following year, it received one Michelin star, and in 2014, it was upgraded to two stars, a status it maintained until now, when it achieved the ultimate dream of every chef — three Michelin stars.

Jungsik, a first-generation Korean fine dining restaurant to challenge New York's gastronomic world, laid the groundwork for many young Korean chefs to follow in its footsteps and enter the city's fine dining industry.

Currently, New York is home to one Korean restaurant with two Michelin stars and nine with one Michelin star. Among them, Chef Park Jung-hyun, who leads the two-starred Atomix, is a former member of the Jungsik team.

Additionally, Chef Kim Ho-young, who runs the Michelin-starred JUA, also honed his culinary skills at Jungsik.

Meanwhile, Joo Ok, a Korean restaurant that relocated from Seoul to New York earlier this year, achieved the remarkable feat of being awarded one Michelin star within a year of its debut in New York, as revealed in this year's announcement.
