<Korean News> Lunar New Year Holiday Begins: 6 Out of 10 Office Workers Plan to Travel.

The longest Lunar New Year holiday of up to nine days has begun.

Incheon Airport is bustling with people heading abroad from the morning of the first holiday, January 25th.

According to Incheon International Airport Corporation, the busiest day of the holiday period is expected to be the 25th, with a projected 227,725 travelers passing through.

A majority of office workers also revealed that they have travel plans during the holiday.

A survey showed that six out of ten people are planning trips, with 13.9% of them favoring overseas travel. Among the international destinations, Japan was particularly popular.


According to an online survey conducted by ElimNet's Now Answer Bay, respondents were asked, "If you are planning a trip during the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, what type of travel are you considering?" Of those surveyed, 47.4% (427 respondents) answered that they were planning domestic travel, while 13.9% (125 respondents) said they were planning to travel abroad.


On the other hand, 38.7% (348 respondents) stated they had no travel plans.

Among those planning overseas trips, Japan was the most popular destination (46.4%, 58 respondents), followed by Southeast Asia (23.2%, 29 respondents) and the United States (11.2%, 14 respondents). Other destinations included China/Hong Kong (8.0%, 10 respondents), Europe (7.2%, 9 respondents), and Australia/New Zealand (2.4%, 3 respondents). Very few respondents chose Russia (0.8%, 1 respondent) or other destinations (0.8%, 1 respondent). Meanwhile, no respondents listed Africa, the Middle East, or Israel.


The primary reasons for planning a trip were led by "rest and relaxation" (45.8%, 253 respondents), followed by "nature and urban sightseeing" (31.0%, 171 respondents). Other reasons included "historical and cultural exploration and learning" (7.6%, 42 respondents), "entertainment and activities" (6.7%, 37 respondents), and "food and gourmet exploration" (6.2%, 34 respondents). Less popular reasons included "sports activities" (2.4%, 13 respondents) and "other" (0.4%, 2 respondents).
