<Korean News>“Not a single unit a day is sold”; “folderable smartphone” accumulate in inventory.

The popularity of folderable smartphone, once in the spotlight as innovative mobile devices, has sharply declined over the past year.

Despite price reductions, the number of buyers has decreased, leading to an accumulation of unsold stock.

Motorola's first folderable smartphone, the Razr 40 Ultra

According to the telecommunications industry on the 13th, Motorola's first foldable smartphone, the Razr 40 Ultra, is barely selling in the domestic market, with some days not seeing even a single unit sold.

Although the price was cut by 300,000 won from its original 1,299,000 won (for the 256GB model) and it's being sold through online retailers like Hello Mobile and Coupang, it has failed to attract any significant attention.

Motorola is planning to introduce anotherfolderable smartphone, the Razr 50 Ultra, to the Korean market later this year at a reduced price of around 990,000 won. However, it is expected to face similar challenges in securing domestic sales.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 folderable smartphone

Even Samsung Electronics, which holds a 100% market share of ffolderable smartphone in Korea, has not seen the level of sales it anticipated. Pre-order sales only reached 910,000 units, down from the previous model's 1.02 million.

Industry experts point to low durability and high prices as the main reasons behind the poor performance of foldable phones. Despite discounts, the devices remain expensive relative to their specifications, and their weak durability coupled with high repair costs have kept them within a niche market.
