ONLINE-KOREA

On the 15th, amid the illegal arrest of President Yoon Seok-yeol by the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office, a handwritten manuscript addressed to the public by President Yoon was made public.

In the document, President Yoon expressed his unwavering belief in liberal democracy and the rule of law, stating that these principles underpinned his mistaken decisions. He vowed to fight to the end against the forces of people's democratic dictatorship and totalitarianism to protect them.

On this day, a photo of the document densely filled with President Yoon’s handwriting was posted on social media accounts managed by the Presidential Office.

"This document is a ‘Letter to the People’ that President Yoon Seok-yeol wrote overnight at the beginning of the New Year with his own fountain pen. We are posting the manuscript as it is," the explanation read.

In the document, President Yoon stated, "Democracy that is not liberal democracy is fake democracy, a dictatorship, and totalitarianism disguised as democracy." He continued, "Democracy is a system to protect individual freedom, and liberal democracy is realized through the rule of law."

Regarding the impeachment resolution by the National Assembly, he noted, "Recently, those involved in the opposition's impeachment have withdrawn the charges of treason at the Constitutional Court," explaining, "Since treason cannot be established, they took the obvious measure."

He further criticized, "If the impeachment is conducted under the pretext of treason but excludes treason during the trial, is it not fraudulent impeachment and fraudulent prosecution?" He added, "Looking at the situation after the impeachment, I wonder if those politicians who proudly claimed to have long fought for democratization really are what they claim to be."

Expressing gratitude, President Yoon said, "Seeing many citizens and young people recognize the crisis situation in our country and take on their rights and responsibilities as sovereigns, I am deeply grateful to the people for recognizing and responding to the national crisis."

He continued, "Having promised to properly establish liberal democracy in this country, fight against the totalitarian cartel forces that ignore freedom and the rule of law, and return sovereignty to the people, I have no regrets, regardless of what happens to me personally."
