【Korean News】 "Protect President Yoon", Cheonggye Plaza Overflows with Supporters of the 'National Presidential Defense Group.'

At 6:01 PM on the 13th, Cheonggye Plaza in Seoul was packed with people as the "National Presidential Defense Group," an organization opposing the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol, was officially launched.

Citizens began gathering an hour before the inauguration ceremony, voicing strong criticism against the Democratic Party of Korea, which led the impeachment motion against Yoon.

At booths set up throughout the plaza, attendees signed petitions, while event staff distributed hand warmers and seat cushions to those braving the freezing temperatures.

Most participants were bundled up in heavy coats and scarves.

A citizen from Dobong-gu, Seoul, stated, "Seeing this outrageous impeachment trial unfold, I was overwhelmed with anger and rushed here to take a stand."

As the event officially began, the crowd spilled over from Cheonggye Plaza to Mugyo-dong Intersection, filling the streets.

Holding placards and Taegeukgi flags, participants waved them in unison to the music. Banners read "Eliminate Anti-National Forces" and "Protect the Free Republic of Korea." Chants such as "Investigate the Rigged Elections" and "The President Will Return" echoed throughout the plaza.

One participant, attending with their family, remarked, "I joined the National Defense Group to restore a just nation for my children.

" Another attendee from Incheon, Gyeonggi Province shared, "I became politically aware after the martial law incident. Seeing the elderly fighting for our country in this cold weather, I felt compelled to join and do my part in defending democracy."

While the National Presidential Defense Group is not focused on direct legal defense, its primary aim is to mobilize President Yoon’s support base, intensify public opinion campaigns, and expand anti-impeachment petition efforts.
