The rally of patriotic conservative right-wing citizens aiming to prevent President Yoon Suk-yeol's resignation is evolving over time into a justification to rebuild the endangered liberal democracy and rule of law, and to overcome the unprecedented collapse of constitutional order.
A new agenda of "Protecting the Republic of Korea's system" has been observed in various parts of Gwanghwamun Square.
On the 4th, a large rally organized by the "National Movement to Correct the Republic of Korea" took place across Gwanghwamun Square, with the organizers estimating about 3 million participants. New slogans such as "Protect the Constitution," "STOP THE STEAL," "No to Electoral Fraud," and "Oppose Legislative Dictatorship" were displayed.
In previous rallies, slogans like "Oppose the Impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol," "Invalidate the Rebellion," and "Democratic Party is the Main Culprit of Treason" targeting both the ruling and opposition parties were dominant. However, in this rally, new slogans related to the "constitutional order" of the Republic of Korea emerged.
President Yoon has used expressions like "anti-Republic of Korea forces" and "sovereignty-infringing forces" in his public statements, such as his address to the nation on December 12 last year and his New Year message to supporters in front of the official residence on January 1 this year, specifying forces opposing liberal democracy and the rule of law.
In his address to the nation, President Yoon stated, "To dismantle the pro-North Korea elements and anti-state forces entrenched throughout our society and to pass on a free Republic of Korea to future generations." In his New Year message, he mentioned, "The Republic of Korea is under threat from the covert operations of sovereignty-infringing and anti-state forces both domestically and internationally."
President Yoon concluded both statements with a common resolution to "fight to the end." His direct mention of the overthrow of the liberal democratic system by pro-China and pro-North Korea advocates has heightened the perception of a real crisis facing the national system.
