The 16th Pyeongchang Trout Festival, one of the representative winter festivals in Gangwon Province, Korea, opened on the 3rd at the Odaecheon Festival Venue in Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Province. It was revealed that the number of visitors exceeded 40,000 over the three-day event.
According to the Pyeongchang Trout Festival Committee on the 6th, the festival recorded 45,000 visitors from the 3rd to the 5th.
The committee explained that a diverse range of visitors, including families, couples, group tourists, and foreigners, attended in large numbers.
Particularly, a majority of the foreign visitors came from Southeast Asian countries, such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The festival features various leisure activities and programs centered around trout fishing.
The festival venue, covering about 110,000 square meters, has four ice fishing zones that can accommodate up to 5,000 people simultaneously.
Visitors not only enjoyed catching trout but also made memories by savoring the freshly caught fish.
One of the festival's highlights is the Golden Trout Fishing Event. Participants who catch golden trout in the ice fishing area are awarded a pure gold commemorative plaque.
The gourmet zone is also popular, offering a variety of trout dishes such as sashimi, grilled, and stews, which can be enjoyed on-site.
The festival venue also draws attention with various winter sports experiences. Visitors can enjoy sledding, snow rafting, ice karting, and skating, among other activities.
Choi Ki-seon, the chairman of the Pyeongchang Trout Festival Committee, stated, "We prepared the festival with a priority on the safety and enjoyment of the visitors." He added, "Visitors can also enjoy discounts by making donations through the Hometown Love Donation System or purchasing Pyeongchang Love Gift Certificates to use at the festival venue."
This year’s festival will continue until February 2, 2025.
