As South Korea faces political unrest over President Yun Suk-yeol's potential impeachment, there has been a growing backlash against celebrities who have supported the impeachment or participated in related rallies.
In some cases, individuals have gone as far as compiling a "blacklist" of these celebrities and claiming to have reported them to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), sparking widespread debate.
On December 17, a so-called "List of Celebrities Supporting Yoon Suk-yeol’s Impeachment" began circulating on online communities and social media. Along with the list, users shared a link to the CIA's reporting website, encouraging others to "report them together."
The list reportedly includes Kim Ou-joon, who was allegedly listed as a "target for arrest" if martial law were declared, singer Lee Seung-hwan, who performed at pro-impeachment rallies, and several high-profile figures accused of supporting the impeachment cause. Among them are IU, who was alleged to have made advance payments on behalf of rally participants, as well as Yuri from Girls' Generation and members of NewJeans.
Other notable figures on the list include prominent film director Bong Joon-ho and screenwriter Kim Eun-sook, both of whom publicly voiced support for the impeachment. The names of numerous other celebrities who expressed support via social media posts were also included.
The CIA operates its own tip-off website where users can submit reports by entering an email address, phone number, and case details. It is noted that there have been actual cases where individuals were subsequently barred from entering the United States.
Some online users have posted screenshots to prove they have reported South Korean celebrities to the CIA, accompanied by calls for others to join the effort.
