Samsung Electronics is set to release the "Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition," a foldable phone that is both lighter and slimmer than its predecessors.
The hardware has also been upgraded to the highest standards, and despite its hefty price tag of approximately 2.8 million won (about 2030 usd), all eyes are on whether it will be a hit.
On the 21st, Samsung revealed the detailed specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, with sales beginning at 9 a.m. on the 25th via Samsung.com and major telecom carriers' official websites. The device will be available in a single color, "Black Shadow," and is priced at 2,789,600 won.
This model emphasizes its slimmer profile. When folded, it measures just 10.6mm in thickness and weighs 236g, making it both thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which measures 12.1mm and 239g.
The main display has a diagonal length of 203.1mm (8 inches), which is about 10mm longer than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The aspect ratio of the cover screen, usable when the phone is folded, has been improved to 21:9, bringing it closer to a bar-type smartphone compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s 22:9 ratio.
Moreover, the hardware performance has seen significant improvements.
First, the camera's resolution has been upgraded to match that of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. While the Galaxy Z Fold 6's wide-angle camera offers just 50 megapixels, the Special Edition comes with a staggering 200-megapixel camera, marking the first time a Galaxy Z series model has featured such a high-resolution camera.
The memory capacity, crucial for multitasking performance, has also been boosted to 16GB, a notable upgrade considering most of Samsung’s flagship smartphones come with 12GB of memory.
As for the phone's processor, it uses the same "Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy" mobile platform as its predecessor.
