<Korean News> Seoul's New Subway Map Wins “Red Dot Design Award.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced that it has won the "Red Dot Design Award" in the Brand & Communication Design category for the second consecutive year. The Red Dot Design Award is recognized as one of the top three international design awards.

Last year, Seoul received awards for the "Seoul Drops Bench" and the "Seoul Light DDP." This year, the award went to the newly developed "Seoul Subway Map," which prioritizes easy readability and visibility for all.

The Red Dot Design Award, along with Germany's iF Design Award and the IDEA Award in the United States, is considered one of the three major global design awards. Each year, it opens applications in categories such as Product Design, Design Concept, and Brand & Communication Design, selecting winners through a rigorous evaluation process.

The Seoul Subway Map, which won this year in the Brand & Communication Design category, is Seoul’s first newly redesigned subway map in 40 years. It features enhancements in brightness, clarity, pattern, and thickness for each line, making it accessible for individuals with color vision deficiencies, visual impairments, and elderly passengers.

Seoul plans to release single-line maps and pictograms of iconic tourist destinations by the end of the year. Additionally, they aim to develop merchandise featuring these single-line maps and pictograms.
