<Korean News> South Korea, when there is no autumn and extreme cold weather is coming!?

This summer saw record-breaking heatwaves, and it's predicted that we will face extreme cold waves this winter.

Ice freezes on the Han River near Gimpo City, Gyeonggi Province, on January 25 of this year during the cold wave that originated in the Arctic.

On the 23rd, Professor Kim Hae-dong from the Department of Environmental Engineering at Kyungmyung University appeared on CBS Radio to discuss this winter's weather forecast. In response to questions, he stated, "I believe this winter will be very cold, following a similar pattern to the winters of 2021 and 2022." Professor Kim is also a climatologist who predicted the severe heat that Korea endured this past summer.

Professor Kim pointed out that there is a very high likelihood of a La Niña phenomenon (a climate event where sea surface temperatures in the Pacific monitoring region drop more than 0.5 degrees below average) occurring this winter. If that happens, it is quite likely that strong cold waves from the Arctic will hit Korea and the North American continent.

He also predicted that we will barely experience a typical autumn this year, adding, "Starting tomorrow, temperatures will remain close to 30 degrees, and this pattern will likely continue until at least early November. After that, temperatures are expected to drop suddenly, meaning we'll hardly experience autumn at all."
