The 29th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) kicked off at 6 p.m. on the 2nd with an opening ceremony at the outdoor theater of the Haeundae Cinema Center, marking the start of its 10-day schedule.
This year’s festival will feature a total of 278 films from 63 countries, including 54 screenings from the Community BIFF section. The films will be shown at five venues, including the Cinema Center, CGV Centum City, Lotte Cinema Centum City, and Megabox Busan Theater.
According to a BIFF Organizing Committee representative, this year’s event promises to heighten audience anticipation with a variety of films from both world-renowned directors and emerging talents, as well as special programs.
Among the highlights is a masterclass featuring talks from distinguished filmmakers such as this year’s Asian Filmmaker of the Year Award recipient, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, as well as Ho Yuhang, an icon of Hong Kong’s New Wave, and director Miguel Gomes.
Kurosawa will present two new films, Serpent's Path and Clouds, while Gomes will attend as part of the festival’s special program, “The Cineaste of Joyful Melancholy.”
In addition, various open talks, outdoor stage greetings, and Actor’s House events, where actors candidly discuss their performances and works, have been announced, further building excitement for the festival.
