On the 8th, Youngone Outdoor’s global outdoor brand, The North Face, announced the limited release of the “North Face Hangul Collection” in celebration of Hangul Day, featuring typography from old, no-longer-used Hangul characters.
Youngone Outdoor’s Vice President, Song Ga-eun, stated, “To foster greater interest and affection for Hangul, which we speak, hear, write, and see every day, we are delighted to reintroduce the 'North Face Hangul Collection' for Hangul Day after its initial release this summer. Responding to the high interest from both domestic and international customers, we’ve expanded the collection to include more diverse items, such as T-shirts, hats, and eco-bags.”
The newly released “North Face Hangul T-shirts” feature four obsolete Hangul characters from the 순경음 (syllables like ㅁ, ㅂ, ㅍ, and ㅃ) and four consonants from the original 28 letters of Hunminjeongeum (the script created by King Sejong). These characters are no longer in use in modern Hangul.
The “North Face Hangul T-shirts” come in more than 10 different colors, including white, light blue, and lavender. Newly added women’s and kids’ sizes are also available, each featuring unique designs incorporating different old Hangul typography, allowing customers to choose based on their preferences.
In addition, The North Face has also released a new series of “North Face Hangul Hats” and “North Face Hangul Eco-Bags,” with six Hangul words such as “사람 (person),” “산 (mountain),” “닭 (chicken),” “왕자 (prince),” “섬 (island),” and “홍 (vast).” These items are designed with bold, brushstroke-style fonts on black or white bases, giving a clean and striking look.
The “North Face Hangul Collection” is available for purchase at The North Face’s official online store, as well as at over 10 offline locations nationwide, including the Myeongdong, Hannam, and Seongnam flagship stores.
