<Korean News> The 'sole survivor' of a North Korean soldier, he hides under a pile of bodies.

A video surfaced last week claiming to support reports that an advance unit of North Korean soldiers, participating in their first engagement against Ukrainian forces in Kursk, western Russia, had been completely wiped out.

On the 31st, a pro-Ukrainian Telegram channel posted footage under the title “Results of North Korean Forces’ Deployment in Kursk,” showing a lone surviving North Korean soldier.

The channel explained, “The only surviving North Korean soldier expressed his frustration with President Putin and called on his compatriots to stay home.”

The video shows a man, assumed to be a North Korean soldier, lying on a bed with bandages on his head, face, and neck. The bandages were visibly stained with blood.

He appeared severely injured, struggling to speak, but managed to say in a raspy voice that he was “the only survivor of the battle in Kursk.” His speech carried the distinctive accent of North Korea.

He began, “The Russian military told us that as long as we stayed within the defense facilities, we would not be attacked and would never be sent to the front line—but that was a lie.”

He went on to say, “Despite their promises, the Russians forced us into the attack at Kursk without any reconnaissance and didn’t even arm us properly.”

Continuing, he disclosed, “When the Ukrainian assault started, we were ordered to attack. Our unit had 40 people, but everyone, including my friends Hyuk-chol and Kyung-hwan, was killed.”

He added, “The Russian soldiers had their necks sliced by shrapnel, and I survived only by hiding under the bodies of my fallen comrades.”

He further stated, “I’d heard stories from my grandfather about the Liberation War, but nothing could prepare me for this. In reality, we, my comrades, were used merely as cannon fodder, sacrificed without hesitation.”

He also mentioned, “While the Ukrainian forces had the latest weaponry and high morale, the Russians had lost a significant amount of equipment and continued to send soldiers like us to the slaughter,” describing Kursk as “a true hell on Earth.”

He stressed, “I saw with my own eyes the bodies of Russian soldiers piled like mountains and the destroyed defense lines. Putin will lose this war.”
