“Eagle Makgeolli,” a product of Shinnamjin Brewery Co., Ltd., an agricultural corporation in Daejeon, a local city in South Korea, has won the grand prize in the low-alcohol makgeolli category at the “2024 Korea Traditional Liquor Competition.”
The Korea Traditional Liquor Competition is a government-led traditional liquor contest organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation since 2010, aiming to improve the quality and competitiveness of Korean liquor.
This year’s competition featured 395 products from 246 breweries nationwide, competing in six categories: low-alcohol makgeolli, high-alcohol makgeolli, medicinal and clear liquor, fruit wine, distilled liquor (distilled soju, general distilled liquor), and other liquors. Eighteen products were selected as winners.
“Eagle Makgeolli” is a collaborative product between the Hanwha Eagles, a Korean baseball team, and Shinnamjin Brewery Co., Ltd., a local brewery in Daejeon. It is characterized by its natural sweetness and subtle fruity aroma.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in November as part of the commemorative events for the “2024 Korea Traditional Liquor Festival.” The winning products will receive various promotional benefits, including prize money, invitations to buyer tasting events, support for entry into bottle shops and bars, and online promotions.
