It has come to light that a travel agency has been selling unauthorized "BTS Tour Packages," sparking widespread controversy. Additionally, it was revealed that the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, which is responsible for overseeing such matters, had been promoting the tour.
Near the elementary school in Daegu where BTS's V graduated, a mural street has been set up. Another mural street dedicated to fellow BTS member SUGA is located nearby. These locations have become popular tourist attractions for both domestic and international fans.
However, since July of this year, a travel agency has been selling tour packages to visit these locations without obtaining permission from BTS.
The controversy intensified when it was discovered that the government had been promoting these unauthorized tour packages. The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism had created and distributed promotional materials for the tours.
Furthermore, the Korea Visit Year Committee, which operates under the ministry, had posted detailed information about the tour destinations and schedules on its website.
BTS's agency, HYBE, stated, "We were completely unaware of this business, and in line with our policy to protect the intellectual property rights of our artists, we have requested that the travel agency cease offering these tours."
In response, the Korea Visit Year Committee removed references to the "mural streets" from the tour descriptions, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism said, "We will prioritize verifying the facts, and if any issues are confirmed, we will take appropriate action."
