Gwachon City, Gyeonggi Province, was recognized as an outstanding region in the "2024 Regional Safety Index Evaluation" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
This means it has become the safest city in South Korea.
On the 9th, according to Gwachon City, the "Regional Safety Index" is a metric that the Ministry of the Interior and Safety annually uses to assess and publicize the safety levels of various regions. It evaluates safety across six categories: daily life safety, suicide, infectious diseases, traffic accidents, fires, and crime.
Gwachon City achieved the highest level, Grade 1, in the categories of daily life safety, suicide, and infectious diseases. It recorded Grade 2 in traffic accidents, fires, and crime, earning recognition as an outstanding region among the 226 cities, counties, and districts nationwide.
The mayor of Gwachon stated, "Our establishment as the safest city in the nation, following our reputation as a livable city, is thanks to the cooperation of all citizens and related organizations." He added, "We will continue to identify and improve areas vulnerable to safety risks to make Gwachon even safer."
