On December 3rd, President Yoon Seok-yeol, who had been illegally detained and indicted in relation to the martial law situation, was released on the 7th. This came 51 days after his arrest.

The 25th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Ji Gwi-yeon) accepted the request for bail cancellation submitted by President Yoon, claiming that the detention was unjust. Bail cancellation is a procedure by which the court releases a defendant when the reasons for detention no longer exist or have been resolved.

Earlier, President Yoon had filed a request for bail cancellation on the 4th of last month, and the court held a hearing on the 20th.

During the hearing on bail cancellation, President Yoon's defense team argued that the indictment was unlawful as it had occurred after the expiration of the detention period and that he should be immediately released. On the other hand, the prosecution opposed, arguing that the indictment was legitimate.

President Yoon is expected to move to the Hanam-dong residence after his release.
