Updated: Aug 7

The Korean table tennis representative, Shin Yu-bin, was spotted eating an energy gel during a match, which has caused a “sold-out frenzy” for the product. The small company that manufactures the product explained that it was not a sponsorship or advertisement.

On the 5th, according to the industry, sports nutrition food manufacturer Yohemity announced that “the energy gel was exposed through the broadcast screen of the Korean women’s singles quarterfinals (featuring Shin Yu-bin), leading to a surge in sales,” and that the product is temporarily out of stock.

This product was exposed during the women’s table tennis singles quarterfinals on the 1st, where Shin Yu-bin was playing against Japan’s Miu Hirano. During a brief delay in the match as Hirano changed her uniform in the third game, Shin Yu-bin placed an ice bag on her head and ate the energy gel in a dark brown package.

At that time, online comments about Shin Yu-bin eating the energy gel included “so cute,” “many people will buy this after seeing it,” and “if a national representative eats it during a match, it must be trustworthy,” showing a positive response to the product.

Regarding this, the company told the media, “It was not exposure through sponsorship or advertisement, and we did not know the player was using our product. We are currently urgently securing additional stock,” and added, “We never dreamed it would be

exposed like this, but we are truly honored.”
