Riot Games announced on the 7th that the first domestic League of Legends (LoL) tournament of the year, the inaugural LCK Cup, will kick off on the 15th of this month.
According to Riot Games, the LCK Cup will feature 10 teams from LoL Champions Korea (LCK). The winning team will earn the right to represent Korea at the newly established international tournament First Stand, to be held in Seoul.
The LCK Cup will introduce the "Peerless Draft" system, a selection and ban method that has not been seen in LCK before, applied to all matches.
The Peerless Draft is a rule where champions picked in previous sets cannot be chosen again in a series, preventing strategic stagnation and allowing for a variety of champions to be seen. This system has gained attention in several international tournaments.
The participating teams in the LCK Cup will be divided into the Baron Group and the Elder Dragon Group and will compete in a group match format over three weeks.
Hanwha Life Esports, the champions of last year's LCK Summer, will lead the Baron Group, alongside the World Championship-winning team T1. Gen.G will represent the Elder Dragon Group, selecting Dplus KIA as their partner.
BNK Pia X, DWG KIA, and OK Savings Bank Brion will follow in the Baron Group, while KT Rolster, Nongshim RedForce, and DRX will join the Elder Dragon Group.
The LCK Cup will be broadcast live on online platforms such as SOOP, Naver Esports & Games, and the YouTube LCK channel.
